Hi guys, i have a question about RAM and which kind of ram would be supported in a particular setup...more specifically RAM speeds.

I am looking to upgrade to an socket 1150 cpu/mobo and i am curious as to which kind of ram i can use. The components i am looking at are the Core i7 4790K, and the MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard

CPU - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=27940

Motherboard - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_1491&products_id=27521

The motherboard says that it supports DDR3 3300MHz, while on the CPU page it only mentions DDR3 - 1333/1600. So does that mean that even though the mobo supports DDR3 3300MHz, the CPU does not? So basically would it be a waste to get ram faster than 1600 for this setup?

Thanks for any help/info - cheers

1600mhz is the recommended ram by Intel but the Intel memory controllers are strong and can support fast ram with a z motherboard.

Fast ram comes into play with running a lot of programs and memory intensive games. Very well suiting the 4790k for its abilities. Just keep in mind that cas latency also comes into play when picking ram.

It is possible to get up 3300mhz with ram overclocking but the higher latency would most likely out way the benefit.

Those are some nice sticks and I think that gskill makes a tridentx 2400mhz at cas 10 also and I believe they are red so they would match your motherboard.
