R9 290 and monitor compatibility

Solution
Sounds like a bad port on the video card. If the video card works on HDMI, the old card works with the same cable your using with the new card then that's about it.

I have tried plugging the DVI-D into both ports on the gpu and still my monitor does not pick it up.
Any other possible solutions? My monitor should be compatible correct?

Yes everything is connected properly. I tried using the same cable with my 7870 using it's dvi-d port(the same port r9 290 uses) and it worked so I know my cable/monitor work. I then tried putting my r9 290 back in and tried using its hdmi port on my tv and that worked.

So the question is why isn't my r9 290 working when I know its installed/functional (tested on tv) and I know my dvi cable/monitor works (tested on my other gpu).

Any further help would be much appreciated.
