Problem with VPN

Can anyone advise please, I have the following problem - when I connect to my work PC from home through VPN and Remote Desktop, it works fine, but my 'original' home PC net stops working. As soon as I close the VPN connection (disconnect), my home PC net starts working again. I hope that makes sense. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Do you expect someone to answer you withing half an hour?
When you use VPN, all of your traffic (not just Remote Desktop) goes thru the VPN, so all of your traffic goes to your office.

But on my previous PC it wasn't so - I could simultaneously use net on both! I recently built a new PC and facing this problem, it's not a critical problem but annoying. When I minimize Remote Desktop I have to disconnect VPN to use net.
