Can I just use my TV as a computer monitor, or is that not as good?

I'm going to be buying a gaming pc with a geforce 970X graphics card and if I have to I can buy a computer monitor. Currently I am using a macbook air with a cable that mirrors the display onto my 40" Westinghouse CW40T6DW HDTV. When I buy the pc would it be better to get a real computer monitor even though it would be probably 23" instead of the 40" TV I use now? I'm not sure if I should just save the money and hook the pc up to the TV display. Would the TV not be able to display the graphics as clearly as a normal computer monitor? And if I should get a computer monitor, what are you're recommendations? Basically I want to be able to play world of warcraft as well as some steam games on the highest settings and still have over 60fps.
