Thinking of building a small minecraft server out of some spare parts. Will just be for myself, my daughter and a couple of friends. Just wondering if people think it will work for it. Will run a survival world and a creative world.
Have an old C2D E6300 1.86Ghz
2 x 2Gb @ 1066Mhz
160Gb HDD
Ubuntu OS

DL speed is 15.85Mbps
UL is 1.79Mbps

Thanks

It would work, just kinda slow with the lack of RAM and RAM speed (as in the server will lag, not because of internet)

Minecraft isnt a very challenging game to run though, so all is good there.

All looks good, do me a favour and punch plenty of wood for me ;)

If your running two worlds i highly recommend getting a bit more ram which is cheaper now and even add another drive for redundancy. All in all it will run fine i have ran lag less servers on laptop based architecture processors only a little better than your build and it supported 10 people at once have a look here

Thanks, will go with 2 x 4Gb @ 1333Mhz instead. May only be able to run it at 1066Mhz though, but will see.
Board I'm getting is a gigabyte ga g41m combo, the max FSB is 343. Doing a bit of research they seem to have problems some times with OC. But not many options for 775 socket boards here in NZ that I have found.
