Would a single GTX 970 handle 1080p triple monitor gaming at high settings?

Ok so im in a predicament. I have enough money to buy another asus vg248qe monitor, but i only have 1 gtx 970. I was gonna get another gpu then monitor but could a single gtx 970 handle 3 monitors at atleast high settings, 1080p in games like battlefield 4, call of duty, and elder scrolls? Cause if i could get atleast 60 fps in high settings on 3 monitors i would buy another monitor then another gpu down the road.

I will be using BF4 since it is the most graphically demanding game you listed.

now, to answer you question: that depends, judging by the following image the GTX 970 can run a single 4k monitor at about 26-37fps with high preset
BF4hi-FR.png

now, this is a bit of an iffy comparison but I may be able to assume that performance here is directly related to pixels introduced due to the fact 3x 1080p monitors is just about 6220800 pixels adn a 4k monitor has 8294400(first off this is an ungodly amount of pixels good lord :p) and 8294400/6220800 is about 4/3 it can be somewhat assumed that a 3x 1080p setup would deliver about 4/3 the performance of a 4k monitor. which in the case of the statistics above is about 35-50fps at a high preset. This is completely theoretical though so due to the spread of the monitors it may be slower/more "sttutery". With this I believe it is safe to assume you would get about 30-50 fps in bf4 at the high preset off of one GTX 670.

While I understand that what I just did might be a bit unrealistic and I understand it does not scale perfectly I believe those numbers will give you a rough estimate as to where the performance will hit.

Be that as it were, one gtx 970 will be able to run 3 1080p monitors at high settings in bf4... that being said, I think you should deffinetely consider getting a second card if you plan on gaming at that resolution, it will be much more enjoyable.

note: I used this method because I was unable to find any benchmarks for 3x 1080p in bf4 on the gtx 970, at least from the short time I looked.

I have a galax exoc 970 and the Asus vg248qe. Things you should know about 144hz.
1. It takes over twice the cpu and gpu power of 60hz so I hope you have a good cpu. for bf4 you want an i7 as the i5 bottlenecks some (I just did this upgrade 3570k 4.5ghz to 4790k 4.5ghz)
2. I am actually going to test triple monitor when I get home today because I am looking at buying two more 144hz monitors and am wondering if I can get 144fps on low settings. Triple monitor is hard enough to run let alone at 144hz. I will try to run tests and post my findings.
3. 144hz wil cost $250-300 more than buying 60hz surround. That's quite a bit of money to hopefully try to run 144fps. This is why I'm so torn right now. The thing is 144hz is so much more responsive and cleaner than 60hz that I don't like playing 60hz monitors anymore. If I go 60hz on my side monitors then I will be forced to run 60hz on my 144hz cause spanning runs only one refresh rate. Now I've been thinking that the immersiveness of triple may compensate for the lack of 144hz so that's what I'm going to try. I will most likely end uo going 144hz surround though

Ok so I tested it. In BF4 I was getting around these frame rates.
Ultra - 40fps
High - 60fps
Medium - 90fps
Low - 110fps

Titanfall is capped to your refresh rate so it was stuck at 60fps. On max settings except ragdogs (IDK why lol) I was running the 60fps cap but it would drop to 45. I lowered a couple settings and it helped.

Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGO) I didn't like it personally, especially at 60fps, but I averaged around 200fps and the lowest I saw was 150fps and that maxed out and FXAA on.

Serious Sam 3 is CPU bottlenecked, even with the 2 core option, so I was getting 100fps average with around 60-80% gpu load

Gas Guzzlers Extreme ran 45fps so I lowered everything a bit and disabled the extra stuff and it ran 60fps.

Trine 2 max settings and medium AA 100fps.

My conclusion: The 970 can pull off 5760x1080p at 60hz pretty well FOR NOW. You will have to lower more settings with future games. For 144hz it's not feasible. I personally am going to just get two extra 60hz monitors with small bezels or the Asus 1ms response time and only use them if a game has a really nice environment and isn't a faced paced shooter. I also prefer to have my other 2 monitors displaying TeamSpeak, Steam Friends and chat, Skype, RainMeter, and Firefox while I'm gaming. Allows you to multitask very well. Also after gaming at 144hz all the time

Another bit of info that I've found is higher framerates cause your gpu to run hotter. I ran Unigine Valley at Ultra and 8xMSAA and I was getting around 60fps. I turned off the MSAA because I found that others don't run it, and my fps jumped to 120 and my temps jumped 10c. I've also seen this with other games. So imagine how hot your gpu will be when trying to run 5760x1080p and over 100fps, it's going to be getting pretty hot. Oh and your gpu will be hitting 100% load at all times unless you cap it or it gets cpu bottlenecked.

That is never a good idea as it introduces a ridiculous amount of screen tearing. I had to play with it last night for a minute as they still haven't fixed Titanfall's vsync/refresh rate cap yet. It causes constant tearing, even on my 1ms Asus VG248QE monitor which hides tearing very well.
For capping I would suggest something over the monitor's refresh rate. So for 60hz I'd say like 75fps.

Also that is a 144hz monitor so my gpu always runs high framerates.

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I have to say that you should cap 1 fps more than your actual refresh rate, like 60hz to 61fps, 75hz to 76fps, 120hz to 121 fps, 144hz to 145 fps and so on. I've personally tried those first three and, though there still is tearing, it is not the ridiculous amount that you get when you cap at your refresh rate.

I tend to experience less screen tearing when doing this compared to 90 fps.
