I recently bought a BenQ EW2440L monitor and when plugging it in using HDMI the text is all blurry even the desktop background is blurry. I was previously using it on my laptop as a second monitor and that worked fine without any issues but now that im using for my PC it i struggle to read the text from distance and it just generally unpleasant to use. Im running it at 1080p on a Radeon HD 6870 gpu

Any suggestions/solutions to fix would be great

Solution

Hmm, are you running at 1920x1080 60Hz?
Make sure virtual super resolution is not accidentally on :)

Try going into AMD Catalyst Control Center -> My Digital Flat-Panels -> Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel) and change it from what ever it is now to 0%. See if this fixes the problem. If it does you need to go into your screen menu and disable Overscan on it.

Try over/under scaling in CCC, if it's one step too low or high, it can produce unclear text etc. like you described:
Step 1: Open CCC
Step 2: Click on "My Digital Flar-Panels"
Step 3: Click on "Scaling Options"
Step 4: Drag the slider from all the way down to all the way up slowly, and look if text becomes clear at a certain percentage.

Let me know if this works for you.

You could try using a DVI-D cable instead. HDMI and AMD always ends up with scaling issues. Fixing it in the CCC can normally be done, but DVI-D is idiot proof. After you do get it setup right, run Windows ClearType to get the text to look better.

Looking at the page, I guess the monitor doesn't have DVI. Anyways, after setting scaling to 0%, and saving it, you may also have to make sure the resolution is correct.
