Best GPU for 5760x1080?

I recently got a great deal on purchasing 3 1920x1080 monitors, and to say the least, my PNY GTX 650 has been struggling to drive them. Therefore, I was wondering, when I upgrade/build a new system in the near future, what GPU would be the best in terms of performance for value in this setup. An ASUS 760 (or maybe 2 in SLI?) sounds nice, but I've heard that the 900 series are really meant for greater than HD resolutions...then again, they are very expensive.
I'd like to hear your thoughts about different cards and their performance!
Thanks

Currently, I am able to run 5760x1200 at a passable 30fps on most games with my GTX 970. While I usually prefer 60fps, it'll do for now. In my mind, the performance difference between the 970 and 980 doesn't justify the $200 cost difference.

I'd recommend starting out with a 970, and throw another one in for SLI sometime down the road.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. 30fps is alright, though I too of course prefer 60, and the SLI would keep the system up to date down the road.

Thanks!

Yes, pretty much. Also programming.
However, I think I agree with the other comment about the 970 :)

A single 290X 8GB should handle all that with ease--> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150723&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
But for that even a 280X or 280 is enough.

Well, this looks a bit expensive...also, why would I need 8GB of VRAM?

Yeah, maybe a 280/280x as it is nearly $100 less than a 970, but then again a 970 would definitely give better performance...

I thought you weren't gaming or doing any other GPU intensive work.

I am doing light to medium gaming as well as Photoshop...

Edit: By light to medium gaming I mean like Minecraft, LoL, Hearthstone, Skyrim, etc.
