single gtx 980 capable of running nvidia surround?

I was just wondering, would a single gtx 980 be capable of running 3x Asus Vg248qe monitors in surround? on ultra or high settings?
those are 3 1080p screens running at 144hz (already have 1)

or would 2x gtx 970 be better?

2x GTX 970s would be better especially since you have 144hz monitors. But I run Nvidia surround on a GTX 680 and most games are fine on medium to high settings depending on the game. In either case you probably will only be gaming on high settings and your probably not going to exceed 60 fps. Just google 4k benchmarks for the games you wanna play. 4k is just a bit more taxing then NVidia surround.

ok, so 970 in sli would allow me to benefit more and higher fps

2x GTX 970 will produce higher fps then a single GTX 980. Just make sure you have a quality 700 watt PSU or better.
