DVI-A to VGA with a DVI-A to DVI-D connector, monitor does not detect input

video card: gtx 760, supports 2 dvi and 1 hdmi output

recently got an old monitor from a friend that only has VGA port
so i ordered vga to dvi cable online, did not realized it was dvi-a so again i ordered a connector dvi-d to dvi-a
my pc can detect the monitor and show the correct model but the monitor does not respond, the power button is on and screen is black, when i turn on and off it just say "input not detected"

btw, hdmi is out of question because i already have a TV plugged in

Your GTX 760 likely has a DVI-D and a DVI-I port. The D port is digital only. The I port carries both digital and analog signals.

You should simply be able to use a standard DVI to VGA adapter, plugged into the DVI-I port to send the proper VGA signal to your display.

BTW, what specific make/model is your GTX 760?

nvidia getforce gtx 760, both ports are dvi-d i think, because the left side has no dot plugs on top and bottom (between the long rectangle slot
standard dvi-i to vga doesnt fit for the above reason, so i have standard dvi-i to vga with a dvi-i to dvi-d(dual) connector

you're right, I didn't realize the one I already plugged as my main monitor is dvi-i, i switched both cable now works fine
