R9 290x vs R9 295x2 for 1920 x 1080 Resolution Gaming

I currently have a monitor that has a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

As I don't use 3 monitors for gaming, will the R9 295x2 be completely pointless as that's geared towards 4k monitors?

IE; on a single 1920 x 1080 monitor, will I get the same performance on a R9 290x as a R9 295x2?

The R9 295x2 is not pointless at 1080p. If your aiming for 60fps then the R9 290X is more than capable. If you want to max everything out 1080p 120hz then R9 295X2.

PS. why not consider the GTX 970?
