I have the below configuration system

AMD athlon X2 64 4100 - 2.1 ghz speed
Gigabyte M61SME-S2
2GB DDR2 RAM
Zotac Nvidia GT730 GDDR5 2GB VRAM
1 TB harddisk
250W PSU (low quality)

This system i bought almost 7 years ago.

Now when i play any game, mostly the CPU goes at 100% and GPU is on an average at 30% utilization (based on GPU load).

Based on this i am assuming CPU is what bottlenecking here. Also i get only 15 to 25 FPS during the "sniper elite III" game, and "call of duty world at war", i get around 12 to 20 FPS only. It keeps fluctuating. So i am planning to upgrade my system.

Option 1: Buy I5-4440 CPU (Rs. 12000 = $190) & Intel DH87-RL motherboard (Rs. 7000 = $110) & 4 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 Mhz & Corsair 550W PSU.
I am giong to keep the same Nvidia GT 730 2GB GDDR5 GPU.

Option 2: Buy AMD FX6300 ($110) and suitable motherboard for ($100) instead of I5 which costs only $110 and with the saved money cant i buy a better good graphics card?
Also, 4 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 Mhz & Corsair 550W PSU.

Now my question, i am confused on which option would be better. I read in some of the forums that I5 is for high end gaming, would the AMD FX6300 do the same as what I5 does (at least 70%). Also i believe most of the load will go the GPU anyway. So here, buying I5 does it really help me or can I buy FX6300 and saved money I can put into new graphics card?

Can someone please suggest me. My total budget is around $400.

Thank you for reading this post.

For instant gaming gratification, go for the FX-6300, MB, RAM, and a faster gfx card. For best future-proofing (I hate that word), go with the i5, MB, RAM, and wait til you can upgrade the card.
The 1st option will provide the best gaming experience NOW. The 2nd option will still have a bottleneck, this time by the GT 730. Of course, a lot depends on the resolution you game at. The GT 730 should be fine if you game at 1440x900 or lower.

Btw, keep in mind that 4GB system memory is almost not enough with today's games. If you can afford 8GB, go for that.

Thank you for the reply. Instead of going for upgrading again (if i buy FX6300) later after few years, better I will go for i5 option as you said future proof. And when I can save some more money I will buy better graphics card.

Thanks again.

I have bought the I5 processor with DH87RL intel board. There is tremendous increase in the performance of games, very smooth play though at 1280/720 resolution (have used the same GT730 GDDR5 - little bit of overclocking). But some games are struggling to get 40 fps (sniper elite 3). But I am happy with the improvement. Thanks.

At that rez, you should be fine with the GT 730 for awhile. But now the card is the weak link. So you know what to upgrade next. If you stay at 720p rez, you won't need much more than a GTX 750 Ti or R7-265 to run games at max settings and smooth frame rates.
