How can I tell if I am recording Fraps to my HDD or SSD? Which is better for better framerate?

I am brand new to PC gaming so I don't know how to tell any of this.

I play BF4 and Crysis 3 at great FPS, but when recording I get FPS drops and freezes in the recording/gameplay. Doing some research people said that it depends what you are playing off of and what you are recording to. How can I tell what I am recording to and what I'm playing off of, and what should I be doing to get the best FPS?

I haven't used FRAPS to record gameplay, but I do have the program to see my fps in game.

Go to the movies tab and you should see "Folder to save movies in" - There it displays which drive the file is being saved to.

Hopefully someone else can help you achieve better fps when recording.
