Hi there,

I'm currently looking to buy a new PC mainly for gaming (total war series, skyrim and unfortunately WOW). I am finally fed up with buying a laptop every couple of years so i'm going to take the plunge and move over to a desktop system. I'd like to absolutely hammer Rome total war 2 if possible, i have seen some mental battles on YouTube and being able to play those myself would be really cool. I guess the main thing i get confused with is whats more important; CPU or GPU.

Whilst i'm not completely inexperienced at choosing components, i have never built one before so this is one i knocked up over at PCspecialist this morning:

Case
CORSAIR OBSIDIAN SERIES™ 750D FULL TOWER CASE

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4820K (3.7GHz) 10MB Cache

Motherboard
ASUS® RAMPAGE IV BLACK EDITION: INTEL X79, SOCKET 2011, R.O.G

Memory (RAM)
32GB KINGSTON HYPER-X BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2133MHz X.M.P (4 x 8GB KIT)

Graphics Card
4GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 980 - 1 DVI, 1 mHDMI, 3 mDP - 3D Vision Ready

1st Hard Disk
480GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 450MB/sW)

2nd Hard Disk
3TB 3.5" SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 64MB CACHE

1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
8x BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW

Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RM SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET

Processor Cooling
Corsair H100i Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler

Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND

Sound Card
ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

Wireless/Wired Networking
ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless PCI-E Adapter

I would really appreciate any advice or feedback you can offer on this system. I will be using a 27" 1920 x 1080 display and my budget is around £2500 - £3000.

Thanks very much for your time.

That system is total overkill, for what you want. Also the CPU and motherboard platform are old and outdated. A system in the price range you are looking at spending, is way more than necessary. For 1080p gaming, this will max out the games you want and even more demanding titles.

With your budget, you could get dual 1440p monitors.
