Is a laptop LCD compatible with a flatscreen desktop monitor?

I have a Dell SE198WFP monitor. I've used it for years... and it's worked great; unfortunately, I accidentally let it fall on my keyboard. The LCD screen is now cracked-the screen protector is fine- and I would rather save some money rather than spend the 80-100 for a new monitor. As it would be a decent amount cheaper to buy a screen itself, would it be possible to mount a comparatively sized laptop screen inside the monitor?

Laptop LCD is not going to be compatible with your monitor. Unfortunately, when these displays break, there is not much to fix in most cases.

I would plan on getting a new monitor as it will be the most cost effective.
