Upgrade Intel Core i3-540 to i7?

I'm planning to Upgrade my system.

This is my current Specs - Intel Core i3 540-3.07GHz CPU
2GB DDR3 Ram
EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB GDDR3 GPU
450W PSU

i'm planning upgrade this with - Intel Core i7 870 CPU
8GB DDR3 Ram
Gigabyte AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB GDDR5 OC VGA
or
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 GPU 2GB GDDR5 OC VGA
(This is not the GTX 750 Ti VGA)

is this upgrade good enough for gaming in 1366*768 or should i go for a new system unit?
if the upgrade is good enough which VGA you'll recommend from the ones i mentioned before?

and i'm targeting to play the "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor" game at least with low settings without a lag.

This would be fine for 1366x768, If you plan to go to 1080p I would reccomend a new build till then get your moneys worth out of it.

Thanks for the answer and i'm not planning to go to 1080p because i'm not a fan of Big Displays. so what VGA you'll recommend from the two i mentioned above?

I prefer the 260x over the 750 non TI version, I think you will be very happy with it over all at that resolution.

Thanks again. looks like upgrade is fine for me and also it's good for my budget. i saw r7 260x is better than GTX750 but wasn't sure because GTX 750 performance were better in larger displays. but in my case i'll go with the 260x.
