Is 1 GTX 980 sufficient for 1080p and 144hz gaming? (1 monitor) Would 2 be overkill?

I don't play very demanding games but I was looking at benchmarks for 2 980's and WOW! but it cost a lot of money so i don't think i would/could do sli. so i was just wondering. would 1 be sufficient for a 144hz monitor? I want my system to last for a while.

depends on the settings your running your games at, Current games wont run Maxed out 120+FPS on a single gtx 980 at 1080p, on the other hand SLI 970 might do the job for close to a 980s price.

Hi,

I own a GTX 980, and I am running a 144hz monitor, at 1080p. I've played games like BO3, CS:GO and GTA V, and I can say that I get frames from my lowest being 140 (BO3), to the highest being ~800 (CSGO). So I do think that it is worth it.

A GTX 980 will be enough for todays games at high but not maxed out settings. For maxed out settings I would get a 1070, but if that's too rich for your blood, then a 980 will do. I have a GTX 960 where I play games like Boarderlands 2, COD, and GTA V and average around 179 FPS, with 60 being the lowest ive ever gotten with vsync turned off.

Hi,

I am currently running a GTX 980 and have a 144hz monitor. I play CS:GO and BO3 quite a bit, and I can say the default settings for CS:GO's FPS is anywhere from 250-400fps on Competitive servers, and smaller maps up to 800FPS. On BO3, I get about 140-200FPS.
