First gaming PC build (I have no idea what I'm doing)

I want to build the best possible machine for gaming that I can without breaking the bank (tale as old as time). The further from 2k we go the better It'll be.
So far I've got this list of parts from amazon that my online research has led me to believe are pretty sweet. They are as follows:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower USB 3.0 Gaming Case
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX780 (Used? Is that an okay thing to do?)
MOBO: ASUS Z97-A ATX DDR3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Blue 8 GB
SSD: Crucial M500 Internal Solid State Drive 240GB

I know I still need a power supply (and likely other things that I have zero idea about). So if you guys could point me in the right direction or let me know if any of the parts I listed are bogus/not compatible I would be forever in your debt.
Please be gentle, this is my first time. I've been a console gamer for my entire life and I'm making the plunge into superior gaming.

You can save by going with a lower i5 if the cost is substantial enough. Sorry, haven't check prices on them lately. Used GPUs are on your own risk, I only buy new so I have the warranty and I know what the card has been put through. And for the record, EVGA has awesome customer service.
Do you plan to turn the PC on and off regularly or leave it on continuously? Otherwise, the build looks fine. I'll check to see about motherboards and CPUs once I'm out of class.

here's one I have constantly saved. It's overkill but you won't run into any problems for AAA titles at 1440p or less.
