Hello,

Following is the config we bought sometime back for our Maya and 3DS MAX workstations:

Intel Xeon W3550 3.1 GHz Processor
WX58BP Motherboard
NVIDIA Quadro 2000
Enterprise SATA HDD 1TB
2 x 4GB ECC DDR3 1066 = 8GB RAM
Pedestal Server Chassis with Fixed PSU
DVDRW

What should be the better option this year for us? Do you suggest using a:

Intel Core I7 3820 Processor (3.6Ghz) with Intel Motherboard X79TO (8 DIMM Slot)?

Thanks

First of all add another stick of memory into the board. The Intel Xeon W3550 supports triple channel memory along with this board so you can increase you memory bus bandwidth by having 3 sticks of memory.

Then I agree with SK1939 look to the video card. If you are finding you are running slow in access times for the data you might look into adding an SSD to work from.

Hi guys,

First of all apologies for the delayed response and thank you so much for the reply.

I probably did not clearly mention that I'm not looking for upgrade, we are going to buy new machines.

Also, do you think that I can consider Intel Core I7 3770 Processor + Intel Motherboard Z77GA
over
Intel Core I7 3820 Processor (3.6Ghz) + Intel Motherboard X79TO (8 DIMM Slot)

Thanks
