Maximus Hero VII 3 pin or 4 pin fans

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hopefully I've posted right as this is my first time on Tom's Hardware. I'm currently building a new PC and I have the Maximus Hero VII. I was wondering should I use 3 pin fans or 4 pin with PWM fans as I want to use the Fan Xpert 3.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Help advice is great thanks =)
