AMD single core performance

Hey everybody

I was just randomly thinking, is it possible to maybe turn off 7 cores on the AMD 8 core cpus and use the power for better single-threaded programs. I don't actually have that cpu but its just a thought. Some games I heard are only optimized to use 1 core instead of 4 or 8 and that's why everybody says Intel is better for gaming, but if u take a behemoth of a cpu that has power for 8 cores and combine in all into 1 core that would surely outperform an Intel cpu.

No. The power use limit is built into the design of the modules and the CPU. The limiting factor is not power needs, but the ability to use the power available.

Theoretically, if you turn off 7 out of 8 cores it will save on 7/8 amount of heat, this isn't true but still if you done that you could overclock that single core alot higher than all 8 in one unit I would say to get a higher core performance on that single core.

No. The power density will still be too much for the single core ant it will burn out. Running a car on one cylinder will not allow you to get significantly more power out of that cylinder. She canna' handle it, Jim
