ASUS VS247H-P will only play 75hz at standard definition

I have a problem with my monitor, an ASUS VS247H-P. It can and does run at 75hz but only at 1280x1024 and it plays 60hz at 1080p just fine. AMD Catalyst Control Center (CCC) just will not let me do both 75hz and 1080p at the same time. Is it not possible for this monitor to do both? AMD CCC says "Choose the refresh rate. Those shown in italics are not supported for the current desktop area and will cause a change in resolution." 1080p and any thing above 60hz (but some below too, e.g. 56hz and 30hz) are apparently incompatible. What is going on? Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: 1080i will exclusively do 30hz and under. What are these restrictions for and can they be removed?

*I have already tried changing the resolution and refresh rate through the windows control panel. I am using an HDMI between my monitor and GPU.

I don't know why it would matter but these are my specs.

CPU: AMD FX-6300
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X
MOBO: Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB
Power: EVGA 500W 80PLUS

Solution
Yes, it is possible to do both, but not over HDMI. HDMI caps out at 1080p@60 Hz. You need to switch to a Dual Link DVI cable.
