Is it worth enough to change Laptop HDD to SSD?

I have Asus X552C Laptop, I need an extra storage capacity. Is it worth enough to change Laptop HDD to SSD and make the HDD into an external HDD? Or I just buy a new external HDD?

From experience with three laptops replacing the HDD with an SSD has worked well for me. I have noticed an improvement in boot times. Programs load a bit quicker as well. I think it would be a good choice.
