EDIT: If it helps, here is the build from PCPartPicker. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3kFjgs

I am doing a custom build soon and I want to have a quad monitor setup (1-over-3, top monitor for desktop stuff while gaming) with SLI GTX 980s. I am going to be recording with Shadowplay, so I want the bottom three monitors to be G-Sync Monitors. I have chosen the BenQ XL2420G Hybrid G-Sync Monitor because I also have consoles I will be using. I have went to Nvidia's Surround Configuration Website but it has left me a bit confused. So I have a few questions I need help with.
1) Can 2-way SLI GTX 980s be used in a 3 G-sync Monitor setup? If yes, how would I set it up? (I am aware DP is needed for G-Sync)
2) Could I hook up the top monitor to my Mobo and use integrated CPU Graphics for desktop stuff while gaming. (I am using Asus Maximus VII Hero/ i7 4790k)
3) Could SLI GTX 980s handle games like BF4 and COD on a 5760x1080 setup well? What FPS should I expect?
Thank you for your help!

Solution
Sli GTX980s should be able to handle a G-Sync surround with no issues. They are very powerful cards and G-Sync monitors aren't any harder to run than standard monitors.

As the Motherboard you've picked is fairly high spec, and of the Z97 chipset you should be able to run a monitor off the integrated port whilst gaming on the Video card ports.

My SLi GTX970s handle most games with no trouble at 5960x1080p (5760x180 with bezel correction, hence the extra width), so SLi GTX980s will be fine!

Awesome! Thank you very much! How would I hook up the 3 way Surround with G-Sync though? Would I use all the DP connections from top card or mix n' match? I found a link (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1834719) here and they to use 2 DP connections on top card and one from bottom card?

When you have your two cards set up in SLi, just connect your three monitors to the cards in any way. Then go into the Nvidia control panel and select 'span displays with surround' and click on configure. There will be a diagram to show you which specific connections to use for each monitor.

Thank you for all your help. And I am assuming that when I use Shadowplay it will record my "primary" display then since that's where my character and everything will be? Or do you know?

I've not actually used the shadowplay feature, but it would seem likely that it will only record video output on the Nvidia cards, what with it being an Nvidia feature.

Since originally posting on this thread, I have used Shadowplay on my surround setup, and can confirm that it can be done.

With your 4th monitor I'm not sure what Shadowplay would actually record, but your 3 primary screens will be fine.

Probably long past but fwiw I run quad Titan with my surround setup and I get about 100fps in wow with everything overclocked.

Something like witcher 3 I'm lookin at like 40fps.

Good luck with 2 980s. All you have going for you is low res (all 144hz monitors are 1080p iirc?)

I'm on tri 2560x1440 bezel corrected to 4680x2560 which is ultimately 5k.

Anyhow, takes more juice than you would think for today's games. Wait for pascal and dx12 games.
