I am attending the engineering program at my new college soon. They gave me the option for their recommended laptops for engineering. They gave me the option of this:

Now I don't want to spend my money on that if I can get more power (which I believe I can). I enjoy gaming too on the side, so with that option I could not really do much in the gaming sector. Most importantly though I would want to be able to use their CAD softwares. Is it necessary to have a "workstation" laptop.

The laptops I was considering were these:

and

and

Which one of those would meet my needs as far as rendering would go. (Something better than the Dell at rendering stuff)?

Thanks!

Solution
Workstation graphic cards focus more on precision rather than raw computing power, which is what you generally want over a generic video card. So if you are serious about 3d rendering you should get a pc/laptop with firepro/quadro videocard.

Any idea if any of the ones I linked would be better than my assigned option?

For gaming they would be better, but not optimised for 3d rendering. In fact they would not be good at all for 3 rendering since they lack the precision needed for complex 3d calculations. For this you will need a workstation class GPU, one of the nvidia quadro series or one of the amd firepro series.
