Hi

I am looking for a 120hz or 144hz monitor it has to be 23-24inch i cannot have it any bigger as it would be uncomfortable, but like most people i do have a budget. I have around £150-£300 to spend, of course the cheaper the better but i understand you get what you pay for.

I will be running a GTX 760 so i understand that i wont bet getting 100+fps on the newer games that are out, but i have been told that i should still get a 120hz or 144hz monitor.

Now i will be casual gaming on it. I am not interested in any hardcore competitions so i dont think i need a ridiculously fast response time. However i dont want to be able to notice the input lag.

I will be also using it for editing photos that i have taken, this is where i am stuck. I understand that IPS monitors are the best for colour but lack in the response time and also cost quite a bit more than a TN panel.

I have also heard a lot about g-sync and freesync. I know the monitors that have these features build-in cost considerably more than ones without.

Overall i am looking for a monitor that offers the best of both really, which i know is a lot to ask for and my budget doesn't help. I want the monitor to have excellent colour but also quick response times.

Here are a few monitors i have been looking at but i have also been told that the manufactures lie about the spec of the monitor and it can be considerably slower that advertised.

Acer GN246HLBid
BenQ XL2411Z
Asus MX239H
Asus VX239H-W
AOC G2460PQU

I understand that some of these monitors my not be 120hz or 144hz. This is why i am asking on here for some help and advice to help me whittle down my choices.

Any advice, examples and recommendations are more than welcome.

120+hz monitors fluctuate in price, freesync may or may not be supported by Nvidia, so keep that in mind. You may want to wait and see what freesync has to offer.

BenQ Makes THE best gaming monitors. Everything about their gaming monitors is top notch. If you have the cash to blow, put it on BenQ.

That being said, Acer, Asus, and AOC all fluctuate around $100 less than the BenQ monitor (around $200 on a good sale). Acer tends to be the cheapest, and lacks a displayport or a quality stand, but makes up for it by being lower priced. If you have a monitor mount, but don't want to spend money, go with Acer.

If you don't have a monitor mount and don't have any interest in getting one, Asus and AOC are both pretty good.

Ah right thanks for that.

Just to let you know im working in English pounds so my budget is $230-460 in dollars.

Also im not too bothered about having g-sync or freesync atm, they cost too much so i think i will wait till the prices come down.

so which BenQ is best to get around my budget? bare in mind i want 120hz+

If you don't care too much about GSync or 3D, the XL2411z is a steal at $250. Although it isn't a model tested by the guys over at displaylag, everything from BenQ within their XL series scores very well.

It's currently priced at 225 GBP

Zero, that monitor is outside of his listed price range.

I support this model suggestion, Game mode is a nice feature, and displayport might allow freesync in the future. It's a better model for only a little bit more, but either this one or the 11z are good value choices.
