Greetings

I plan on buying an i5 4690 and wanting to know if it is possible to keep the stock heatsink while replacing the fan with something better (and is it worthwhile doing so)?Would be better to replace the whole thing with a noctua NH-L9I?My main concern is noise reduction.

The stock one is designed to do the job and will, though if you want a quieter PC that runs higher turbo frequencies more often an aftermarket heatsink is nice. The ~$20 Arctic Cooling i11 or SilverStone AR02 or noctua NH-L9I or Zalman CNPS5X or CM TX3 or basically any 90mm 3-pipe job will be a great upgrade over stock to reduce noise.
