I would like to see some opinions on monitors I am going to be running the monitor with a single gtx 980 and I am wanting to know should I get a 144hz 1920x1080p 27 inch or a 60hz 2560x1440p 27 inch. Your opinions mean a lot to me because I will be making my choice off of them so please don't go willy nilly and post links to monitors without doing some research and not providing proof. Also I will be playing all kinds of genres of games from FPSers, Eve, Maybe Final Fantasy 14 a Realm Reborn, Skyrim, pretty much anything so motion blur and ghosting is kind of a problem so none to little of that.
Also I do understand that a 2560x1440p monitor has a good amount of better quality than a 1920x1080p monitor but can I just use filters Like anisotropic filtering at max and also msaa or fxaa at max or whatever the game uses to make it seem you are on a monitor that is better than the actual resolution you are running? Will using filters give me sharper images as if they are the same or pretty close to the higher res monitors?
One more thing. From a 1080p to 1440p monitor is there a difference in viewing real estate or is it the same you just get more pixels crammed inside of a 27 inch 16:9 screen?

what about sharpness for a 1080p monitor couldnt I just use filters to make it have somewhat of a better quality also?
I mean I know that using filters might drop my frame rates but wouldnt the higher res do the same thing kinda like make the quality the same or close to a 1440p monitor with almost the same frame rate?

Msaa and fxaa actually make things blurrier.

The higher the resolution the less you need them.

I play at 1440p and always turn them off completely.

The sweet spot for 1440p is 27" if on a computer desk, and yes it's better because of higher pixel density.

I am trying to get something that will play future games at good fps. I watched a couple of reviews with the gtx 980 and a 1440p monitor and it seemed to struggle to get past 60fps keep in mind it was benchmarking with a 780ti, a r9 290x, and a r9 290 also and it was better than all the other cards benchmarked with it I am just worried that if I get a 1440p monitor with a gtx 980 that future games "like games within the next 3 or 4 years" will struggle with a single gtx 980 in 1440p that is a huge investment to spend on a 560$ graphics card and a 3-500$ monitor just to have it suck *** with a 1440p monitor in the near future. I was thinking about doing triple 1080p surround with 2 gtx 980s in sli but that is almost a 2000$ investment right there. how about this. to lessen the pixels and let the gtx 980 breath a slight bit more what would you think about a 2560x1080p 29in" ultrawide monitor? pretty much the only games I will be playing the most would be EVE and Battlefield 4 along with some newer FPS games and I know for a fact EVE and Battlefield support that resolution and so does crysis 2 and 3 I believe also I might dip into my brothers WoW account when he isnt on it and I think I have seen that game support that resolution also I play TERA but that I dont know if it supports that res. would I be able to use anisotropic filtering with a 2560x1080 ultrawide? would that res just be a slightly stretched 1920x1080p except its not 1920 it is 2560x1080

yeah but what is the reason of getting a 144hz 1440p monitor if your hardware cant give you 144fps to match the refresh rate? also I am not trying to spend no more than 400$ on a monitor and I found the qx2710 for 309.99$ on newegg but it is a 60hz 6ms response time monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4JH1H16177 and its got really good reviews and has been given a good video review by a guy that I subscribed to on youtube his channel is awsomesauce network and he is almost up there with jayztwocents and tek syndicate he actually gave that monitor a 9 out of 10 and a felon award because he felt like he got away with murder buying such a good monitor for such a low price but still that doesnt answer the question that is plaguing me is I am trying to get a monitor that will work beautifully with a single gtx 980. will a gtx 980 almost never drop lower than 60fps on a 1440p monitor if so then I will go with a 1440p monitor but if it does then I might have to go for a 1080p monitor with 144hz because I am a real stickler when it comes to smooth gameplay I hate with a passion screen tearing ,stuttering, motion blur, I also hate jaggies but not with a passion I can deal with those. I just want to know if I can get more than 60fps on most to all games on a 1440p monitor if so then I have made my choice if not then I have to look elsewhere for a monitor

really both and that is why I was considering a 29 inch 2560x1080p ultrawide because it has less pixels than a 1440p and more pixels than a 1920x1080p but to answer your question to the fullest I actually prefer performance over quality but still want ultra settings if all I have to sacrifice is filters.
right now I am running a gtx 750ti with a 1280x1024 monitor and it runs extremely good on that resolution but when I upgrade to a better 2000$ pc and 1440p monitor or even a 1080p monitor I will need a way more powerful graphics card

G-sync, for one. Smooth frame delivery, even if it isn't 144 FPS, is excellent. Low tearing without V-sync is also nice. 144hz refresh rate disguises tears a lot, and allows you to go low latency without any v-sync. And not all games are so demanding that you won't be able to get high FPS.

I get everything from newegg and I dont see any 144hz 1440p monitors on there. I do see a 100hz 27 inch but I dont think it has gsync

EDIT: actually I dont think it is 100hz I think it is OCable to 100hz but in the specifications it says 100hz

You could allways go with the 144HZ screen and just crank it down as needed, till price drops on another 980 card and still be reasonably viable for quite some time.

By the time something truely better than the 980 comes out they will drop considerably in price and two of them will definately be good for years to come, given that youd need a 4k screen to really step up anyways.

At any rate all the resolutions you considering is overkill for me, i would like smooth but at that level i dont have the eyes for "better" detail anyways.

the only 144hz monitors I can find under 400$ on newegg are 1080p monitors and 24inch ones at that there used to be a 27 inch asus monitor that was like 360$ 144hz refresh rate but I am too late for that one they have sold out on that and upped the price to like 550$

I know this but everything else does add up and thats why I was asking if going sli will compensate for the lower vram. in some video benchmarks I seen with sli 970s on a 1440p monitor had a consistent 60+fps at all times and no stutter on games like AC Unity and Shadows of Mordor and those games are vram heavy I also seen some people state in some threads about nvidea lying to people about the 970 and people were commenting that on those 2 games that both of them use a max of 3.7Gb of vram on a 4K monitor so if those people were not lying I would assume that sli 970s are great cards for 1440p because the 1440p monitors use roughly half as much pixels as a 2160p 4K monitor

Not sure about 1440p as I've never played on it, but playing fps games on a 144hz monitor is just absolute magic. The movement clarity is just beautiful. If you play a lot of fps games, I'd go 144hz. But I'm telling you now, once you go 144hz, there is no turning back. 60hz will look seriously awful, and you will hate life. :p
