You're probably right but it's out of my budged :(
So that's why I want to know if the XFX r9 280 is better or the MSI gtx 960.

r9 280x is better than gtx 960 because it can run games at higher settings and smoothly. the r9 280 is a little a slower than gtx 960. btw all cards are good for 1080p gaming. if u have low psu then get gtx 960. go r9 280x if u have a very high quality power supply unit

The 280 has more vram and has more texture filtering and has a higher gb/s http://www.hwcompare.com/18407/geforce-gtx-960-vs-radeon-r9-280/

r9 280 is on par with gtx 960 if not slower. looking at raw specs is ridiculous as both gpus have different architecture. see gaming performance in which gtx 960 beats r9 280 in most games. although r9 280x is faster than both of these

Honestly you have no idea what your talking about.

You must see benchmarks instead comparing specs. Maxwell uses color compression which reduces vram usage.

In your theory gtx 760 has better specs , it must perform better.

My R9 280 (modded and overclocked) , 7700 in firestike. Let's see 960 beats that...

i agree with undying the i7 5960x is a lot better than the 2500k and his benchmarks are still better

ok lets see toms review.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/01-3DMark-FireStrike,3664.html

Both cards reference.

AMD Radeon R9 280 Reference 3GB
R9 280, 3GB GDDR5, 933 MHz (*emul)
Score 7192

Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB
GTX 960, 2GB GDDR5, 1113 MHz+ (*emul)
Score 7319

And heres 1080p index consisting average of 7games and 3 benchamrks including firestrike.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2015-vga-charts/20-Index-1080p,3683.html

Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB
GTX 960, 2GB GDDR5, 1113 MHz+ (*emul)
Score 72.90

AMD Radeon R9 280 Reference 3GB
R9 280, 3GB GDDR5, 933 MHz (*emul)
Score 71.90

Note: Both cards are reference , GTX 960 can overclock more due to its less power consumption and less heat.

honestly you have no idea what your talking about the 285 is 2% slower than the 960 and the 280 is5% faster than the 285 so the 280 is better than the 960
