Hello all!

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I have a fairly old PC (Gigabyte M68M-S2P mobo & AMD Phenom X3 8650) with Windows 7 64-bit installed. I recently purchased an ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z mobo, AMD FX-8370e, and newer RAM to install. I installed it all and of course got the blue screen on initial boot.

I believe this is where my issue lies: My current DVD-ROM is IDE and the Crosshair V only supports SATA, so I can't install drivers and such via CD after installing the new hardware. So I guess my question is can I pre-install the drivers (CPU, chipset, etc) for the new mobo on my existing (old) setup since my DVD-ROM is incompatible with the new setup?

(I would like to avoid a clean install if at all possible)

Please let me know if I have left out any important information.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

So if I bought a SATA optical drive I would still have issues? Also, regarding the flash drive, how would I proceed to install them? I can get the new system to go into BIOS, but not boot.
