I'm getting a gtx 980 sli and want to know if my ASUS 27" 144mhz display will work with a Dell UHD monitor or the equivalent for dual display?

Like can I use one for desktop and one for games and switch between them??

thank you

The twin 970s would be about 50% faster than a 980 on the Swift.

Grid 2 goes from 95.5 with a 980 to 141.8 with twin 970s for performance increase of 48.48%

Batman: Arkham Origins goes from 95.0 with a 980 to 148.3 with twin 970s for performance increase of 56.11%

Bioshock Infinite goes from 88.0 with a 980 to 143.9 with twin 970s for performance increase of 63.52%

Thief goes from 81.1 with a 980 to 136.1 with twin 970s for performance increase of 67.82%

Battlefield 3 goes from 73.1 with a 980 to 121.4 with twin 970s for performance increase of 66.07%

Watch Dogs goes from 57.1 with a 980 to 85.1 with twin 970s for performance increase of 49.04%

Splinter Cell: Blacklist goes from 57.1 with a 980 to 92.2 with twin 970s for...

how would I do that?

is it just plug and play for the mobo, can I just plug the 144hz monitor in the vga and still have it work?
Or does anyone know if windows 10 will cover this area?

No, you cannot. Your 4K monitor is already 4X 1080p display. You will not be able to use your setup as a multi-display. Also, your max Resolution on your 980 GTX is, I believe, 2160p.

What you can do is using the 1080p display, close it, and use your 4k display on two different port... however it is going to be a pain and your icons on your desktop are going to be all over the place each time you are going to switch.

Use one or the other. Honestly I would stick to 4k... as I do right now myself.

We have the following:

Asus 24" 144 hz
Asus 24" 120 hz
Dell IPS 60 hz

If there's 2 people playing, the unused monitor is the Dell....

The Asus Swift 2560 monitor is the best monitor you can buy today for gaming. I won't be looking at 4k until a) we have more GFX horsepower available such that ya can break 45-50 fps in Crysis 3 in SLI [980s can't break 27 fps yet at TPUS test settings] and b) they can do 144 Hz.

I use old monitors off the MoBo VGA port on Haswell / Devils Canyon builds but they are old crappy monitors suitable only for displaying system information and web pages in this day and age. The idea of using a 144 Hz Swift for that would make most gamers cry :)

IOW, if you were about to tell me I could have either your old Asus Swift or your new Dell 4k for a gaming rig, I'd walk out the door with the Swift.

4k = 3840 x 2860 pixels
Swift = 2560 x 1440 pixels

Here's the machine I just finished:

Two 970 MSI 970s in SLI => 1920 x 1080 monitor

On Board Intel GFX => 1600 x900 minitor

While CF only works full screen, (at least last time I used it 4+ years ago ... reportedly works in some games since) SLI has certainly long been capable of window mode, as are utilities like Furmark.... there's a performance hit which can vary from 1-2 fps to 80 fps ... good stuff in link below starts on page 4

So would a gtx 970 sli run swift really good or Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27 inch?

I have the the VQ278HE 144mhz would getting the Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27 inch be an upgrade if I would get the monitor and gtx 970 sli instead?

so If I got those instead of the GTX 980 sli because it would be around the same price.
