I've been needing to replace my RAM recently (MemTes86+ shows thousands of errors) and I've never done this before as all my PCs have been pre-built. I thought I could choose anything DDR3, but now I realise there's a list of compatible RAM for my motherboard:

http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/memory_ga-h61m-ds2-dvi.pdf

And my motherboard is:

http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4403#ov

Which is has these specs:

2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory
* Due to a Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than the size of the physical memory installed.

Dual channel memory architecture

Support for DDR3 2200(OC)/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

Support for non-ECC memory modules

Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules
* To support XMP memory, you must install an Intel 22nm (Ivy Bridge) CPU.
(I do have this CPU, I have a Intel Core i5 3450 @ 3.10GHz)

From the list they give, most of it isn't manufactured anymore. I was using 1x8gb, but am looking to get 2x4gb. Can anyone help me choose please? Looking to get a reliable brand (with good RMA) at around £50.

Many many thanks guys.

Hello,

The QVL list isn't the final. I mean they just mention a few of the modules so that the customer can get an idea of what kind of memory will work. Any memory (8GB or 4GB) which is of 1333MHz, 1600MHz Non-ECC DIMM is going to work regardless of the brand. Good brands (in no particular order): Kingston, GSkill, Corsair, Samsung, Micron, Hynix, Crucial etc.

Good vendors: Newegg, Amazon, bestbuy, crucial, memorystock etc.

Suggestion: If you go with regular memory (non-XMP) then you may get it at the price which you have mentioned.
Good luck with the upgrade!!
