As stated above, I am going to purchase an ASUS VG248QE, but I cannot find an exact answer to which cable I should actually use. It states that it comes with a Dual-link DVI Cable.

1. Will this cable support 144hz at 1080p?
2. Will the monitor's response time be different for a Dual-link DVI Cable and a DisplayPort Cable?

This is the monitor I am looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313

This is the DiplayPort cable I am looking at: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-DisplayPort/dp/B005H3Q59U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427688843&sr=8-1&keywords=displayport+cable

I have 3 possible connections from gpu to monitor. DP, hdmi and dvi. Of the 3, I use dvi, because on the monitor the connections face down and both the hdmi and DP tend to fall out with any movement of the cable, which is most annoying. The dvi has screws to hold it in.

This maybe a somewhat childish and non-technical reason, but for me anyways, dvi is king.

DVI-D and Display Port will get you the same exact results, they can both handle up to 144hz 1080. Cables wont affect the response rate, a wire is a wire and the timing difference is impossibly small. I personally bought a display port cable so that i could use the DVI-D cable on my old monitor (that i was running on vga) i was replacing so i could use it as a second display. Also i bought that same cable, cables 99% of the time just "work" so its a good buy. Also the vg248qe is phenomenal, if you have never experienced 144hz you will love it! The colors are crap right out of the box but with a bit of settings tweaking it looks great.
