Hi there,
So i have been having this problem for a couple of months now, and after searching everywhere on this website and other forums I have not found a working solution to this problem.
These are my PC Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU: Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8 GHz Not Overclocked
Motherboard: Asus P54G41T-M LX
RAM: Transcend 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz (7-7-7-20)
GPU: Point Of View Nvidia GTS 450 1GB Edition
Hard Disk: 500GB Seagate ST3500418AS

The problem I'm having is that whenever I play games (for e.g,GTA IV,NFS Most Wanted 2012,Team Fortress 2,etc.), The sound from the game freezes and then my monitor changes to black and then just shows "Power Saving Mode" and then doesnt switch back on, until i reset my PC directly. I have tried so many solutions( like checking for malware, reinstalling the OS, decreasing game's graphic settings or changing the GPU power cables.) Also whenever I restart my PC (I usually keep it on), in the first 15-20 tries, my Display just shows " power saving mode" even though I can hear Windows boot up. :(

The reason I think the GPU is having problems is because even when my GPU's core temp. reaches 80C the gpu fan does not kick in, and when i manually turn on the fan using MSI Afterburner, the display driver crashes and my monitor goes to power saving mode and then switches back on, with a notification in the system tray saying "The Display Driver stopped responding and has been recovered". Also when i connect the VGA cable to my motherboard directly( it is normally connected to the GPU itself ) The crashes dont happen anymore(Since Graphic intensive games dont work without GPU, I played Team Fortress 2). Any more info that is required, I will try to provide.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S: I'm 17 and still in school, so buying a new GPU right now is not a viable option.
P.P.S: I live in India, where room temps reach 48C in summers, so having a resting(no load) temp of 50C is quite good.

look for anything between 450W - 650W for your build. Preferably 80PLUS Bronze or better.

A very important tip to note stay away from Corsair CX series and try to go for the HX series for a medium system or AX for top of the line system ( if you decide on Corsair) I would recommend Antec for you)

^ that last link will take you to power supplies there you can choose whatever one you want if you stay within the rule of thumb I provided ( the brand names , the wattage, the quality ( at least 80Plus bronze). You can try and find a better bargain than I listed but the ones I listed are pretty solid.

thanks a lot for an elaborate answer, I am not planning on buying a new PC (I'll be off to college this year so ill be buying a laptop). and the ones you suggested are not available here in India, the only ones available in 450W from corsair are the VS450 and CX430
EVGA only imports GPUs in my country so that is out of the question as well. so please suggest some other model or suggest one from the VS450 or CX430

I am aware India has some cheapo PSU's, while I would never recommend buying one for a $800 or higher system for your purpose it should do the trick. You might as well just buy one of those. I had a PSU blow out at work and the place that supplies us also get all their stock from India now ( the screw placement sucks for cases ( it's not in the conventional spots. However it does the trick 6 months down the line and still working ( usually a cheapo wouldn't last a month or 2, what with South Africa having load shedding ect.)

You are planning on buying a laptop and not planning on making a new PC so this PSU is just a means to an end. So any 450-600W will do for you at this time.

Thank you so much for giving prompt response. I know we Indians can be cheapskates, but we make them work somehow ;)
im thinking about buying the CX430 since it has a 80+ Bronze rating. I'll select your response as the best answer

cheers

Thanks, be aware that Corsair CX series are known to give problems down the line. This is not with every model, but because a large amount of the line were faulty and they could still be out there it's safer to recommend away from them. That being said, as long as you don't plan on using it for a new pc but the one you listed it will work fine for your purpose :)
