Hi,

When looking for a new motherboard for my pc I came across this one:

http://www.asus.com/Commercial_Servers_Workstations/KGPED16/overview/

The product page clearly states this is a server motherboard, but also mentions dual use: both server and workstation.
Even though it would be overkill to have a workstation with a 32 core cpu, I'd like to know if it would work.
If you put this in a PC running Windows 7 ultimate (or windows 8.1) together with two 16 core AMD Opteron CPU's, would it work?
Would the system show 32 cores, and be able to use that power?
Also, it doesn't mention RAM memory. It does talk about RDIMM and UDIMM memory. Is this server equivalent to RAM memory?
The board mentions PCI-E slots, so I take it, it would also be possible to hook up a high-end graphics card?
This leaves me with the question of power supply... How strong would the power supply have to be to support this?
The reason I ask: currently I have a small network of 6 PC's set up as a render farm, yet recently it hit me that the fact I can only access the power of all 6 PC's for render-purposes is not very efficient as there are several other tasks my PC has to handle (like gaming and sample loading for music production) during wich all this CPU, memory and GPU power would come in handy as well.

Thanks a lot,
Gibrril

RDIMM and UDIMM random-access memory refer to Unbuffered and Registered types of RAM.

It would also be possible to hook up a high-end graphics card.

Size of power supply would likely depend on the case and kind of video card you use. The motherboard is Form Factor EEB (12"x13").

Thanks for the reply!

Would applications like 3D software, music production software and games be able to take full benefit of a 32 Core CPu and Al those GB of RAM memory or are there limitations? Can it run with a regular Windows like windows 7 or 8 or do I need a server edition for this?

Thanks a lot,
