Pretty sure that AOC monitor your recommending for $250 doesn't have G-Sync like you claim. I've looked at the Amazon link you put in and on the AOC website and it doesn't mention G-Sync anywhere. I found the monitor I believe you area talking about at shops in Australia but it $530 over here and advertises G-Sync as one of its features. I then matched that model number to Amazon and it's actually this model with is almost $500 rather than the $250 you are sprouting. http://www.amazon.com/AOC-Style-G2460PG-LCD-Monitor/dp/B00SIZ8QDM/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1429092690&sr=1-2&keywords=g2460pg

Oh never mind. I got confused between the 2 different AOC models you guys are talking about. I read the about the G-Sync one and then somehow thought it was the cheaper one I was reading about.
Also I can't edit my original comment for some reason.

I'm wondering why there aren't more OLED monitors yet. Sony has one for ~$2000, but I'm hoping to see OLED make it into <$500 realm in the next year or so. If it is OLED, has G/Free Sync, and is less than $500, I'm sold!

The Acer XG270HU Freesync is actually a TN panel. The XB270HU is the IPS panel, except that has G-Sync.

Anyone else not bother spending so much on monitor, and just get a decent TV instead.

I got a 1080p 55" T.V. Slap it in gaming mode, and I don't see any difference in response time or all that crap.

But the size of the screen just makes the game much more fun to play and enjoy than past monitors I've had. I look at those 24" or 27" and just think to myself I could never go back.

The Overlord was in stock for about 2 weeks in February! LOL! I have a friend waiting on his, but I guess the port delays are killing their sales/delivery timelines.

Freesync is still waiting for a 144hz ips qhd monitor. I really wish 1 format would be chosen it sucks being locked into 1 vendor. The XB270HU is the ultimate gaming monitor right now in my opinion tho the asus rog swift is a close second and is still unmatched for overall speed of pixels and latency.

I wonder, can we get a price bracket review, e.g., best monitor in the $100-149 150-199, 200-250 and so on?

I feel this will be more useful for budget users who still want something at least somewhat decent image quality. I would also want to see attempts to calibrate them, as one issue with lower cost panels is support for them by many color calibration tools is very hit or miss.

(and for those wondering, yes, there are many people who have expensive color calibrators and many get cheap displays. This is because sometimes someone may invest in quality panel, and then have 1-2 other cheap panels).

I'm still not a fan of this format. I still think that the better way to get the list is by pricepoint, much like how you do the CPU and GPU list.

Went with the LG 31MU97 for my main work monitor (up from an old 30" Dell 3008WFP). Surprised that the 31MU97-B is absent from the reviews given how it is widely available and hits the sweet spot across the board for power users; in terms of price too. It's not ultra wide at 31" (unlike the LG 34UC97), IPS, 4096x2160 (True 4K / Cinema), 10bit Color, 99.5% Adobe RGB, 5ms for $1,200 (Cnd). The Dell UltraSharp 3214Q is $2,300 (Cnd) by comparison. Really happy with this monitor - colors are spot on and the picture quality is amazing. I'm not a competitive FPS gamer so wasn't looking for 144hz. Most casual games are buttery smooth at native rez with no noticeable lag or ghosting (running GTX 780Ti). Freesync or G-Sync would be nice of course. No longer need anti-aliasing though...woot! Any negative reviews for this monitors that I've seen are from Apple users with out-of-date OSX or bad cables.

I still don't get why the Acer XB280hk G-Sync 4k monitor hasn't been reviewed, only mentioned briefly during the Titan X review. I actually picked up both the Titan X and this monitor since the review, and can say, it is absolutely amazing!

I really don't understand how the PG278Q G-sync monitor didn't end up on the best gaming list. I also couldn't understand why it wouldn't get one of Tom's awards. I know the viewing angles are comparable to any TN model that size, but who's looking at their gaming monitor from any other view than directly in front and center while gaming? The contrast and color are great. I know it's expensive. It's worth the expense when you consider you get all the benefits of G-sync in a 1440p package with a premium TN panel and you no longer need to run a multi-card setup for ultra-high framerates to minimize tearing or the stuttering and input lag that goes along with turning on v-sync.

@antemon - The problem with listing by pricepoint is that monitors have wildly different reasons for getting to the same price, so grouping by pricepoint is going to give me a collection of monitors that are not really comparable to each other. CPU and GPU tend to get more expensive as you increase speed, memory, and measurable performance making an apples to apples comparison easier at the same price point.

Where is Dell P2715Q ? UHD (4K), IPS Panel, 27", 60 Hz, less than $600. Is there any monitor capable to beat that at that price point ?

Uh, why isn't the Acer XB270HU included with this review? My guess is that Tom's Hardware was unable to attain one in time for the writing of this article? The Acer XB270HU is arbuably THE KING OF THE HILL of computer gaming monitors today! Let's see...27" WQHD, 144Hz, IPS, G-Sync, and ULMB - Daaaammnnn. The winner of the Gaming monitor category - next!
