dual analog monitors via VGA and DVI problem

I have a windows 7 PC with a VGA and DVI-D port in the back and I want to run an extended desktop on two identical Acer analog monitors with only VGA ports. So far I have only been able to split the VGA signal to give a cloned desktop on both monitors. I have one monitor running only when one connected to the VGA, and one DVI.

Could this be because PC only has DVI-D? I have bought adaptors to switch from DVI-D to DVI-I then from DVI-I to VGA, but when connected the PC does not pick up the monitor and I an wondering if this is the loss of signal when changed from digital to analog?

P.S. I have gone through the graphics properties to extend desktop, but it cannot see it on DVI, and when split through VGA it just sees the one monitor - is this because they are the same model?

The problem is the DVI-D port. DVI-D puts out a digital signal, while DVI-I puts out both a digital and an analog signal. DVI-I can be used for a VGA display with a converter but DVI-D cannot since there is no analog signal to redirect.

A simple solution is to pick up a cheap graphics card. Since it sounds like you don't care about gaming and just want duel displays for everyday activities, you will not have to spend much to get what you're looking for.

These are the same card but one is cheaper right now because it's on sale and the other is normally a little cheaper. Nothing over $30.

This card has an HDMI, a VGA, and a DVI-I port. You can use the VGA and the DVI-I with an adapter, and it should solve your issue.
