Best Deals: Storage

Every day, we see users posting limited-time deals for components critical to building and upgrading systems. These are often great deals and extremely useful when you are in the market for new components. Some of these deals are the types you'd find on Black Friday, while others are just plain good buys for the value. Unfortunately, they are scattered across our active forums in a thousand different threads at any point in time.

We feel strongly that everyone should have a crack at the best products for the best price, and as your trusted tech news source, the Community Team is undertaking an effort to provide to provide a venue for sharing these with everyone, and we're leaning on the massive number of eyeballs that you all have to help us scour the web and bring home the bacon for our penny-pinching forum warriors.

To that end, we're hosting these Deals threads as stickies here in the Classifieds section to serve as a repository for great buys found online that our community wants to share. The guidelines are simple:

Please include in each deal post-
• A link and coupon code where appropriate.
• The name and a short description of the item
• The price of the deal and why you think it's a great deal

A "Deal" is defined as:
• A deep (10-50%+) discount on a product
• A substantial bargain - that is, something for sale more cheaply than is usual or expected
• Getting something useful of considerable value in addition to a usual purchase

Periodically, a moderator or curator will review the thread for expired deals and mark those as such with a strikeout tag. We strongly encourage users to post deals they themselves are buying, and share these great finds with others here.

For this thread, please post the best, most awesome deals you can find on Storage.

As in the other threads, we wouldn't ask for something we're not willing to get rolling ourselves. Here's some really great deals culled from our Editorial Team on Storage deals currently underway on the great wide internets. As before, a few of these are time-sensitive.

TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB 32MB Cache SATA 3 (6.0 Gb/S) 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149382&Tpk=N82E16822149382

Today 1 TB HDDs have become the backbone of desktop storage. 1 TB is often enough data for many PC users today, so there isn't often a need to spring for a larger HDD for casual users. This one drive uses SATA 3 and the disks inside spin at 7200 RPM, allowing for the drive to perform well enough for typical usage. The drive is already discounted 21%, but using promo code ESCARNK24 will drop the price even more. Deal expires 4/24/15.

Seagate Desktop Solid State Hybrid Drives - 1TB, 8 GB NAND Flash, 3.5 in, SATA 600, Internal - ST1000DX001
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=8527411&sku=SGI-101776480

Although 1 TB HDDs are the backbone of desktop storage, for booting, game, and application performance they can be a little slow. That is why they are often paired with an SSD, but that raises total system cost. An alternative that can offer faster boot times and help improve the performance of some frequently used programs is to use an SSHD like this one from Seagate. It is marked down 46% to $64.99.

Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 240GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0D9-0021-00006&Tpk=0D9-0021-00006

Although they lack sufficient space to store lots of files, SSDs are much much faster and improve load times drastically. This Silicon Power SSD is one of the cheapest you can purchase. It has 240 GB of space which should be sufficient for all programs, or light data storage. The performance may not be on par with some higher end solid state drives, but it is close enough and the price is significantly lower as well.

WD Elements 5TB External Desktop Hard Drive - USB 3.0, RoHS Compliant
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=9179640&sku=WED-102586206

If you need lots of portable storage, this drive is for you. This is a 5 TB external HDD from WD, and it is only $129.99 after MIR. 5 TB should be more than enough storage to hold hundreds of movies and TV shows, and tons of music and game files. Thanks to the USB 3.0 interface the transfer rate shouldn't be too bad either. The rebate is only available until 4/23/15 so if you want it you will need to act fast.

WD Green WD40EZRX 4TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Bulk Bare Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236604&Tpk=N82E16822236604

If you want lots of internal storage instead, this drive has 4 TB of storage for only $129.99 also. Although its 1TB less than the previously mentioned drive, it is internal and uses the SATA3 connection giving it greater bandwidth and potential to transfer more data faster. To get it for that price use promo code "ESCARNK79".

ADATA Premier Pro SP900 512GB SATA III
http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=102303&vpn=ASP900S3-512GM-C&manufacture=AData%20Technology&promoid=1574

If you want more storage without sacrificing performance, a larger SSD is the way to go. This SSD has 512 GB which should be enough storage for many users. With discount code 102303-1574 the price drops $75.01, and only costs $194.98 making it one of the cheaper 512 GB SSDs available.

960GB Crucial M500 for $290 at TigerDirect.

I paid that for my 500GB 840 Evo in November 2013 so SSD price per GB still coming down quite nicely. Pretty soon there will be almost no reason for mechanical drives except to use as storage.

Still good at time of post. 250GB Samsung 840 Evo bundled with a 3TB 7,200RPM Toshiba platter drive for $149. Normally $199.
