I've got (2x) Asus R9 290 OC 4GB in CFX but I'm getting horrible stutters in GTA5, should I switch to one GTX980?

I payed 490 for both cards brand new.
GTX 980 it's as low as 600.

GTA5 right now runs bad in CFX I get randoms stutters (it's not microstutter I can assure that), I'm runing the game at 1440p with the 15.4 beta drivers.

Problem with returning is that I already bought a freesync monitor which I cannot return.

Alot of users are complaning that stutters on both crossifre and SLI. Disable it and it will play smoothly. One 290 is enough to max it out 1080p.

I'm playing at 1440p and when I disable one it runs fine. Problem it's whats the point of having a second card if i'm not able to use it don't you think?

Thats how it goes with multi-GPU's. They have their problems. When it works it shines but sometiems it dosnt (like with GTA V). Witcher 3 is coming, it will need alot of GPU power and hopefuly wont have this problems. Single 980 isnt that much faster than 290 btw. I'll say keep them for now...
