What is the best GPU for 1080p on 60fps on a 144Hz Monitor ?

I have been looking at the 970, 980 and R9 290x Vapor.

Why do you want 60 FPS on a 144hz monitor? You can go up to 144 FPS. The 980 is the strongest of those listed, and the best available would be a tossup between the Titan X or the R9-295X2. If you wait for the R9-300 series cards to come out those also promise to be very powerful.

Welcome brother, it is a glorious quest that will empty your wallet if you are not careful.

A single GTX 980 will get you 144 FPS in many games, however, demanding games will require lowered graphics or multiple SLI'd cards to achieve framerates that high.

The scaling at top end graphics is really harsh, but you can usually tweak things into very smooth framerates with even a 970.
