Hello all, I have a pretty basic question, yet unable to pull the trigger. I have a budget of $300 and I am trying to get a monitor for FPS console gaming, some computer gaming (using a amd a8 6600k with the intergrated Radeon HD 8570D)) and just daily use of research/video watching. I've pretty much narrowed my choices down to these two screens.

Specs:
23" IPS panel
5ms response time
1920x1080
60hz refresh rate
100,000,000:1 contrast ratio
PRICE : $140 before tax at best buy

Specs:
27" IPS panel
5ms response time
2560x1440
60hz refresh rate (I believe)
80,000,000:1 contrast ratio with ASUS smart contrast
PRICE: $300 off craigslist (already contacted ASUS; still under warranty until 7/1/2017)

Im curious if I really need the UHD 2k extra 3" screen for double the price, when the majority of the factors are still the same. I've yet to see either screen in person, so I am looking to advice from personal experience from others if they know what is good. Open to other suggestions in this price range as well. Thanks for looking!

To be honest, your video card is not powerful enough to take advantage of the 2560X1440 monitor. At that resolution, your frame rate will be a slide show. Some older games might do okay, but then they probably wouldn't scale well to the higher resolution. Unless you are planning on upgrading your video card, I'd save the money and go with the 1920X1080 monitor.

Okay thats what i wanted to hear, i figured that would be the case, but i havent had this build for a while and im pretty new to this. If i were to stack a GPU (something like a Radeon R9 270X ) onto this APU in the future, would that make a drastic difference that would be beneficial to get that 2k monitor now? Or would i still not benefit to wasting the money on the 2k?

You want at least an R9 290 / GTX 970 for 2K. 280 / 960 could also give you passable frames per sec, but they are not designed for 2K, they are intended for 1080p monitors. However, a 270X is pretty decent for 1080p gaming too.
So I would suggest to stick with a 23-24 inch 1080p 60Hz IPS monitor. My suggestion is one of the following, with the Dell being the better deal given that it is cheaper. They both have clear images and vibrant colors, thanks to their grain-free glossy coatings.
