2-way SLI GTX 980: G1 Gaming vs EVGA SC (ref)?

Firstly: Sorry for the 1.000.000th "Which 980 to choose???!!!?!?!" post...

I REALLY like the looks of the reference cooler on the GTX 980 but I've read a lot of good reviews of the Gigabyte G1 Gaming version...

I ordered the Acer XB270HU (1440p, 144Hz, IPS, G-SYnc) and would obviously want to get the most performance in titles like Skyrim, Diablo 3, GTA V, Witcher 3, Dying Light, Far Cry 4 and so on...

Case is Fractal R5 (2 fans in, 1 out) - Silence? I like it

Will i be okay with the reference cooler and cooler design (No pun intended!)
or would it be wiser to go for the G1 Gaming?

Bonus info: I plan to get the grey parts of the ref cooler anodized black

I would go with the reference cooler to push heat out of the case. I think the open air cooler on the G1's would dump too much heat into the case.
