Hi all! I am trying to assemble a new PC for the first time, in hopes of optimizing my gaming experiences. I'm really a greenhorn at this so I was wondering if there were more experienced friends out there that could perhaps offer a word of advice/ opinions on the components I have in mind? Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k (changed my mind from i7 as I believe it would not affect gaming too much and the amount saved could be spent somewhere better)

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz (changed my mind from Vengeance 16GB; hoping for better performance?)

Video Card: MSI GTX980 4GB Gaming GDDR5 (changed from Gigabyte GeForce GTX970 4GB as it's cheaper and I read that there's not much of a significant performance difference)

System Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD SATA3

Storage Drive: Seagate 7200rpm 2TB Internal HDD

Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24D3ST 24X DvDRW SATA

Computer Casing: Undecided on the cheaper (by $38) Corsair SPEC-03 or Corsair Carbide 400R

PSU: Seasonic M12II-620W EVO Modular 80+

CPU Cooler: Is it necessary to have one or will a casing fan work just fine?

Monitor: Undecided on the cheaper (by $15) Samsung 24" S24D300H LED Monitor or the ASUS 24" VS248H LED Monitor

Please do provide your kind experience and guidance as to whether such a setup would work or if you have any better recommendations. Much thanks!

I'm a first time builder too, but I would definitely recommend buying an after market cooler, nothing too special, like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo. I assume you're planning to overclock. I would recommend a 200r or something around that price range because you'll need good airflow and cable management. Overall, great build!
