Display port gives 60HZ, HDMI only 30HZ?

I have just purchased this monitor:

I connected the HDMI lead and found 30HZ as highest refresh rate (my cursor was not very smooth). I then switched to a display port lead and am getting 60HZ refresh rate. In games I am getting over 120 FPS.

Why did the display port give a higher refresh rate?

If you have Nvidia, go into your control panel and click on custom resolution. Make sure you set the Hz to 60 and not 30. HDMI is able to handle 60Hz.

The specs on Page 88 in your manual: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201403/20140305101006156/BN46-00410A-Eng_for_India.pdf

Shows that you'll only get 30 HZ ion HDMI.

This is a limit of HDMI bandwidth, it can only do 4k at 30hz. The new HDMI 2.0 spec products are just starting to come out now and they can do 4k at 60hz. Your product is a first gen 4k monitor so you pretty much have to go with DisplayPort as 30hz is almost unusable.

you can cheat and plug 2x hdmi cable into some of these monitors to get the full 60hz.... dont know if this is one of those that can. either way, if you have DP - stick with that
