sfp transceiver connection

Firstly i want to say hello to everybody around here !

i'm having a hard time understanding some things..

could someone explain to me how to connect the fiber patch cords in this transceiver : HP J4858C ?

which sfp port is the receive/transmit port and how to connect the fiber connectors ? transmit to receive or the other way ?

i'm planning to change the uplink between 2 building because the actual link is an old FTP cable and i already bought 2 HP V1910-24G and 2 HP J4858C transceivers .

i'm new in the computer networking world and learning ..

You cross them between 2 sfp. You hook transmit on one to the receive on the other. In most cases since you are never sure about fiber going between buildings I just hook them up and if I get lights it is good to go otherwise you swap the 2 on one end and it will come up.

Since you are using 850nm short haul optics you can actually see the light and tell which is transmit. They are very hard to see but if you put your cell phone in camera mode you can generally see very bright spots on the one that is transmitting since the camera is sensitive to infrared.
