Hi,

I'm building a new PC for gaming and maybe a bit of video / photo editing. I'm looking for the most silent easily upgradable build.

With all thoses changes coming, is it the best time to buy ?

For the graphic card : Should wait for the 300 series or the 980 Ti ?
For the cpu, Should I wait for broadwell ? maybe the i7-4790K will be cheaper then ?

For the cooler, NS-U14S or NH-U12S ( compatibility with RAM) ?
For the RAM: I can get Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3-2400 and Crucial - 16 GB Ballistix Tactical Low Profile for the same price. Which should I pick ? 1.65V is ok ?
For the PSU : would 750W be enough for like a 980 Ti sli ? or is it better to pick the 850W ?

Here is the list so far , If you have any other suggestions, feel free.
Processor : i7-4790K
CPU Cooler : Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM
Motherboard : Asus Z97 PRO GAMER ATX LGA1150
Memory : Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400
SSD : Crucial MX200 500GB 2.5"
CG : EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0
Case : Fractal Design Define R5
PSU : EVGA 850W 80+ Gold

Cheers

U14S, of course, better cooler.
1.65V is beyond recommended voltage for Haswell. Check Memory QVL and Mobo QVL lists.
2400 MHz - pointless. 1600 max.
i7-4790k - what for?

Throwing a bunch of expensive components and ask if this PC is ok, you'll get "it's good", because of quality and performance. That is, if you don't care about money.

Nobody knows anything for sure about 980Ti, why even ask about SLI? 850W is enough for Titan X SLI, I'd expect similar numbers. 1000W will definitely suffice.

Well my last pc is 7 years old.

I don't particularly enjoy changing my pc, I'm too sentimental I guess ;), that is why I care about upgradability ( like the potential to have a 980Ti SLI in a year or two).

The choice of the i7-4790k would be to squeeze an extra year out of that build before I bother to change it, apparently more cores might make a difference for Dx12.

The Corsair@2400 mHz is currently at same price as the crucial@1600mHz, any reason not to get it ?
I checked the memory QVL for the Asus z97 Pro Gamer, the corsair 2400mHz seems to be there.

I mean, in a year or 2 or whenever necessary, the later the better. But if I needed that I'd rather have the PSU ready. 100W for 10 pounds extra, seems to be worth it.

I saw that video editing requirement, so I understand why i7, but you won't squeeze that great boost from OCing.
I'm pretty sure SLI and silence doesn't come together :)
I'd say 850 is a safe bet but better wait at least for press release of 980Ti.

Anything beyond 1600 will be downclocked or put more stress on the memory controller and no benefit just extra degrees on CPU.

Nice build. I'd probably go with Asus mobo myself, GPU brand would be Asus, too. Nice build.

Ok, I'll wait for the 3rd of June, see what NVidia and Amd have to say ( although we might have to wait for the 16th to know more about the Amd cards)

You're right, I'd rather not diminish the durability of my build with thoses 1.65Volts, i'll go with the Crucial - 16 GB Ballistix Tactical Low Profile.

The Noctua NH-U14S should fit ok ?
