Approximate Purchase Date: June 10th latest

Budget Range: 2500-3500 Eur

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, home lab (VMware ESXi, ~6-8 demanding VMs - not permanent), surfing the internet, office

Are you buying a monitor: No (Dell U2715H already ordered)

Parts to Upgrade: complete new build

Do you need to buy OS: No (Windows 7 Pro retail)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: ldlc.com

Location: Europe/Luxembourg

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, Asus motherboard, Corsair PSU, Nvidia GPU (Asus or MSI)

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 2560 x 1440

Additional Comments: Looking for quiet PC, easy to build and service. Playing role-playing games like Dragon Age/Neverwinter, hack-n-slash like Diablo 3, racing like Grid 2. Wants to use the new system partially for home lab with VMware ESXi so need powerful CPU and decent amount of memory

Why Are You Upgrading: current system is 6 years-old (i7 920, X58, GTX 275), not enough memory for lab, new monitor with higher resolution requires more powerful configuration

Thanks Zared, I will have definitively a look at the Seasonic PSU. Was just wondering why 1000W rather than 850W, is that because of the expected load so to keep the PSU silent?
Also, how would you place the Corsair H1xx in the R5? Front or top?

You're basically spot on with using the 1000 watt PSU. It won't have to work as hard to keep up with your system. You were right in wanting a Platinum rated efficiency to keep it quiet and throw off as little heat as possible.

As far as radiator placement, I would probably put it on top. I think you would have a better time routing your hoses that way.
