Which monitor should I buy for watching movie, desktop, and playing PS4?

So I decided to get a monitor to connect to my laptop, watch movie and play PS4. I have limited budget but I would like to buy one that is most worth it.

I have following options to choose from so far:

1. ASUS MX279H 27-Inch, IPS LED, $252: http://
2. BenQ GW2760H 27-Inch, LED, $190 + HDMI-DVI cable $7 + speaker $20 = $217:http://
3. AOC E2752VH 27-Inch, LED, $180+HDMI-DVI cable $7 + speaker $20 = $207: http://

Which would be a best investment if I would like to choose from those 3? for the 1st choice I think 3-watt speaker will be enough for me. The $20 speaker is 5-watt.

But then I learnt that 27’’ is too big for 1080p, and people tend to put it farther away. Then putting it farther away makes it less worthy to buy a 27’’ one because it is essentially the same as to buy a 24’’ monitor and put it closer. So I looked for some 23’’ monitor and they are a lot cheaper:

1. ASUS VX238H, LED, $160 + speaker $20 = $180: http://
2. ASUS VS239H-P, IPS LED, $150 + speaker $20 = $170: http://
3. HP Pavilion 23xw, IPS LED, $160 + HDMI-DVI cable $7 + speaker $20 = $187: http://
4. Acer G236HL, LED, $120 + HDMI-DVI cable $7 + speaker $20 = $147: http://
If there is no big difference for movie watching and PS4 playing, I’d like to buy #4, because it’s the cheapest, but I am not sure if it would be a better investment for good ones like #3.

All the options I selected are rated as ‘excellent’ in http://www.displaylag.com/display-database/,
I want to have a best choice between quality, enjoyment(I assume 27’’ will be better but considering it’s too big for 1080p…..I don’t know…..), and price. The issue is their prices are pretty close and I assume there are not significant quality difference as well. Therefore I am confused which to get. I would like to listen to your opinion and if you have better option for me, that would be great too! Thank you.

The difference between 24" (23.6) and 27" is less than 1 feet further away. If you want a bigger monitor then buy one, it really is that simple. A 24" monitor is almost as big as a 32" TV which is pretty much the norm, and a 27" is between those 2. You will see a difference on less than 10 PPI, so no obvious detail loss or other issues. Look at both of them at a store then make up your mind, you can't get advice for something that is so personal.

I would suggest getting a 24" one, it will most likely prove to be less time consuming and cause less problems. between the 24" monitors, i would suggest getting an ASUS monitor, preferably the slightly more expensive one. I only choose ASUS because i have had hands on experience with a lot of their monitors and they are very sturdy and good quality monitors

So how about 23 inch of ASUS MX279H then? But I am curious that is it actually a big view difference between 23 inch and 27 inch of same model, ASUS MX279H? I think I'd like to get ASUS MX279H for sure, but still swinging between 23inch and 27inch. Thank you!

23" is basically the same as a 24", Personally i like 24" monitors better because i can sit close to them, but then again it all depends what kind of games your playing. If you play games and do designing with photoshop, cinema 3D etc, i would suggest getting a 23-24, But if you are going to be watching movies, and just doing casual things on your computer, you could get the 27 if you really want to, and if your ok at it being a bit further away.

The best 23''-24'' 60Hz IPS monitors are the glossy Dell S2415H and HP Envy 23. This is because they use a glossy grain-free coating that makes the image more clear and vibrant than the other IPS monitors with a matte coating.

For a cheaper alternative, the Samsung monitors use a PLS panel with a lighter matte coating than the matte AH-IPS monitors. So, you can check the Samsung S24D390HL (or the newer S24E series, but I think that it is more expensive so you can just as well buy the HP or Dell monitors).

One thing to consider is what inputs these monitors have - youi want at least two HDMI/DMI/DP ports, don't count VGA ones.. Your only option for the PS4 is HDMI, so you are left with HDMI/DP and DVI (no sound) for the PC.

You can also get HDMI switch for like $20, and use it to switch between sources.
