upgrade or start new

I am looking to either update my current system or start from scratch on a new system. My current system is finally having issues with some of the games i play (usually not FPS).

My current system is:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-x58-UD5
CPU: Intel I-7 920
GPU: Nvidia gtx 280
Memory: 6 gb
PSU: Antec 850

I am looking at some new/used parts to upgrade to:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-x58-UD5
CPU: Intel I-7 980
GPU: Nvidia gtx 980 or gtx 580 SLI
Memory: 12 gb
PSU: Antec 850
and an SSD

I am in a debate because the update would be around $800 or potentially wait for Skylake or get something on the market now. I have had my current system since Nov 08, so its going on 7 years old this year. Looking for some advice on what i should do.

Don't waste your time and money. You'll do much better putting that money into a new rig. A Haswell Devil;s Canyon i5 processor will run rings around that old i7.

I think you would get more bang out of 800 bucks if you just built a new system.
