best gaming monitor for $400

Which resolution are you looking for? @27inches, 1080p will seem a bit grainy, so I'd recommend 1440p.

Personally, I would try and save the extra $140 and get the BenQ. It has everything you want in a gaming monitor minus G-Sync or FreeSync. 1440P, fast response time, 144Hz... A lot of people cheap out on their displays (and their chairs, but that's another story). When they finally get a nice one, it blows their mind that they didn't get it earlier. :p
